Overview

Burley-type tobaccos are predominantly used for making cigarettes, but they are also an important component in cigars, pipe and chewing tobacco. Burley is air-cured, usually in barns, but also in other covered structures with lateral inflow and outflow of air, which allow the leaves to release moisture naturally, thus inducing the desired chemical and physical transformations during the process.

In Brazil, in general, the whole stalks are hung in the barns. At the end of the curing process, which usually takes approximately 60 days, the leaves are chestnut brown or dark brown.

ProfiGen has released a large number of Burley hybrids which provide the growers with excellent results from their tobacco fields. The selection of the most appropriate hybrid, taking into consideration its disease resistance package is the first step for a successful crop.
